HUD Funds $1 Billion+ To Boost The Country's Public Housing Stock

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development granted nearly $1.8 billion to public housing regulators for making enhancements within their housing stock. HUD disbursed capital to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The funds may be used to develop, fix, refurbish or modernize public housing, such as large-scale developments including completely new roofs, plumbing renovations, electrical repairs and energy-efficiency enhancements.

HUD stated public housing authorities will need nearly $26 billion for advancements, but mentioned the organization awarded much less as a result of “our budget realities.
